CRAZY LEADERS

By Amde Sidik

It isn't easy to figure out what is in these people's mind. I am referring to the never ending trouble in the Middle East. I am pinpointing to the USA and Iran saga. For those who read both classical and modern history of Middle East knew fairly well, there had, has and still is huge interest by western leaders in this region-surely they have, otherwise they wouldn't have invested human lives at such magnitude. Anything big was and is from here-big religions, big money, and big risk, to cut short.
The world's feud under the pretext of religion started from here. Osama bin Laden was born here due to the chaotic administration of Islamic nation. But where is and how is Islamic nation by the way? Osama couldn't see it, and actually many don't see it, except, they don't do thing or see thing like Osama does. I still believe there isn't one Islamic nation on earth! I shall put this argument aside; meanwhile, think how about the war between USA and Iran. To some people it is all about religion. My answer is rubbish! It is nothing to do with religion. I also want to keep this argument aside. But let me pick the issue:
Iran is not allowed to build a nuclear reactor, by the USA! In the same league is North Korea. But other countries have nuclear reactors, Israel is one of them. What does USA say? The story goes, if Iran continues with its plan, USA will bomb Iran nuclear reactor, it means USA (Americans) will bomb Iranians; it means USA (Americans) will bomb Iran-the country. Just think realistically, how hellish life for people here, after witnessing Iraq and Afghanistan today. USA foreign policy on this issue can't be right in our eyes, and I think we share this with many. Which one is scarier? Iranians building nuclear reactor or Americans dropping bombs on Iranians soil?...do American public know the real story beyond their 900TV channels?

Don't look at it from the point of view of 'fairness and justice in the world'... Cynics (and to a lesser extent, pragmatists) know that the bottom line behind any flowery words is the survival and dominance of one's own nation.

Just ignore all the US's talk of championing human rights - I mean, would you hold them to their word if they were China or Russia?

Now, looking at it from a jingoistic 'America or bust!' PoV... Do you think that the US could REALLY be more concerned about fairness and the demands of Iran than its own standing as a superpower?

Perhaps it would be better, then, if Al Gore took the Office and spurred on alternative power and new technology, thereby removing modern civilization's dependency on oil.

That would probably get the West to ignore and stay out of the Middle East's affairs. A good thing, right? But it might also collapse the economies of the Middle East. BUT it might also start social revolution to remove the wide gap between the rich and the poor in the oil countries...

Anyway, imagine that for the next two terms, the Liberals or Democrats control the US Presidency and take a very soft line with Iran. Iran is left free to develop nuclear power, ostensibly for peaceful purposes.

I bet five US dollars and a gold dinar that Israel will then launch a surprise attack to destroy any reactors before they are built. They did in to Saddam's nuclear plans back in 1981.

But once again, from the 'Israel or bust' PoV, whoever is Prime Minister at that time will have no choice left to him/her by internal politics, if he/she wants to remain in office.

External and international relations will take a backseat to home concerns. The risks to weigh would make it a pretty no-brainer decision: International condemnation (again) on one hand, or the chance that Tel Aviv will get wiped off the map on the other. President Ahmadinejad, after all, is not known to be very partial towards Israel.
